You and Your Staff
In case you didn’t know this, you are not alone in all of this…you have a staff that can be a big help to you. You just need to find ways to motivate them and help them be the best staff your residents have ever seen…Sometimes just being in property management can wear people down. It feels like a thankless job at times. Residents don’t ever seem to be happy, things are always going wrong and the paperwork…yikes! Keeping yourself motivated can be hard, but now you have to keep your staff motivated as well. How do you do that? A good place to start is at The Better Boss. I found this site and am amazed at the ideas and tips that are given.
No matter what type of team you have…driven, burned out, good but coasting…you can use these three things to get them on the right track…
- Captivate Them – Listen to them, let them help you solve your marketing problems. Create goals for them and then Get the energy started. Don’t wait for them to get energized, if you show your energy, they will follow…
- Stimulate Them – Keep track of what has happened and let them know how things are going. Let them know that you are part of the team and will work shoulder to shoulder with them accomplish these goals. Let them know that you might fail, but that is okay…at least you tried and then brainstorm the next idea…
- Motivate Them - Let them know how excited you are with everything little step they achieve…it isn’t always the big picture, but the individual scenes that gets you closer to your goals. Give credit where credit is due…If they accomplish a big task and it results in a new resident let the higher management know what they did…Let them have their glory…Offer rewards…give them something for becoming the great staff you knew they were…a day off, buy their lunch, etc.
Give them the goal and let them help figure out how to reach that goal and then praise them every step of the way…
