What Other People See

First impressions!  They are so important.  If someone comes on your property and sees trash on the ground, then they are going to think if you and your staff don’t take care of the property, you probably don’t take care of the apartments either…but what is the first impression you are giving when someone comes into your office…How do I look? Make sure you check yourself out throughout the day to make sure your appearance is still as fresh as it was when you first got to work.  Comb your hair, touch up your make up, straighten your clothes.  Keep a Tide Spot Cleaning Pencil close by so if you spill something on your outfit, you can take care of it immediately.  And don’t forget your breath…How does your breath smell.  Keep mints close by…

Out to lunch…all day! When people come to your office and you aren’t there and there is no note explaining this, then you’ve just lost a potential renter.  What that person sees is an inconsiderate person…they might have asked to come in late so they could catch you when you first get to work, but if you are running late, then they are gone when you get there because they have other things to do.  When someone calls the office, make sure you answer the phone.  If you are at lunch, make sure your message says that, so they know someone still works in the office.

A rose by any other name…These days names like Sue and Joe are a thing of the past, people are choosing unique names and unless you are the one who named that baby at birth, you might not always know how to pronounce it.  So ask them…When you ask their name, repeat it and when you right it down on the guest card, sound it out, so you know how to say it when you call them.  People don’t want to their name to be butchered, so make that effort to learn their name.

So remember, You only get one first impression.  Make it the best it can be.  You want them to remember you because of your grace, charm, professionalism and abilities…you don’t want them to remember your for the stained clothes, messy hair and bad breath…
