The Holiday Seasons

What a Holiday Season this has been.  I had decided to end 2009 with a bang for my residents with plenty of activities and prizes.  We’ve had a lot of vacancies lately because of the economy and, unfortunately, elderly residents not able to live on their own anymore.  So I wanted to bring some spirit back into my property.

One thing about the Holiday Season is that it affords you many opportunities to celebrate.  My property is, as I am sure many of your properties are, filled with many different types of people…those who like to party, those who never socialize with others, Christians and non-Christians, black, white, and brown, young and old, etc., so sometimes coming up with something for everyone is a bit difficult.  I use to worry about this for weeks, even months and then I figured it out…I don’t have to have just one activity for everyone…I can have a some smaller activities that help share everyone’s likes, dislikes, and holiday beliefs.

A Merry Christmas Party for everyone that believes in Christmas…A Happy Kwanzaa for everyone that believes in Kwanzaa…and so on…I was amazed at how many people came to the different parties and when I asked what brought them there, many said curosity.  They were curious to learn more about other religion’s, etc. history.  It was a lot of fun and I think many new friendships were formed and after all…isn’t that what the holidays are really all about…

So the next time you are planning your next resident activity, why not think out of the box and find ways for ALL of your residents to get together and learn something new…
