Tenants – Entertainment
Why entertain your tenants? There are a lot of reasons. So they can get to know their neighbors, so they will have some fun, so they might keep the property in better shape and the most important reason…so they will sign another years lease.Entertaining your tenants doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money. It doesn’t even have to be a large group get together. It just needs to be entertaining.
Have a contest. You can challenge each resident or pick a building or floor of your building to work together. Door decorating contests are a lot of fun. You can ask 3 or 5 people in your town to be guest judges…the police chief, bank manager, the mayor, etc. You can pick a holiday or just pick a theme or let your residents decide how they want to decorate. Give a prize…gift cards, a dinner out or a trophy.
Another way to entertain your tenants is to get a large calendar and put it on a cork board. Pick out the fun unusual holidays, like Hot Dog Day or National Smile week, etc. for each month. Then find some coloring pages (online), some recipes or crafts that go with the fun unusual holiday and print them out. Put some wall file folders on the wall next to the cork board and keep these recipes, etc. in them.
And don’t forget the children on the property. Have a coloring contest for them and let the other tenants judge the pictures. Or have a water day and get out those sprinklers and water balloons. If you have a community room, plan a cookie baking party or have one big pizza party to celebrate all their birthdays at one time.
Give it a try and see what happens. And if you aren’t sure what they will or won’t like, then why not make up a list of fun activities and let your residents decide. Make sure you leave them some space to add their own thoughts.
And don’t forget, not all of your residents will jump on board at first, so give them a little time. More and more tenants will join in and you might even find yourself having fun.
